How to use the name picker

Put one name on each line and press Draw. The top card turns over to show who was picked.

  1. Add names. Type them, paste a class list, or add 8 from one of our name generators.
  2. Draw. Press "Draw a name". Every name has the same chance.
  3. Take it out. "Remove & draw again" takes the name off the list so it can't come up twice, which is handy for picking pupils to answer in turn.
  4. Share it. Copy the link and anyone who opens it gets the same list.

Picker or wheel?

They're equally fair. The picker is quick and quiet, good for a classroom or a long list. If you want a bit of drama while everyone watches, try Spin the Wheel instead.

Questions

Is the name picker random?

Yes. Each draw uses your browser's built-in secure random number generator, and every name on the list has the same chance.

Can I stop a name being picked twice?

Yes. Press "Remove & draw again" after each draw, and the name comes off the list.

Do you keep my list?

No. It's saved in your own browser so it's still there next time, and nowhere else. A share link carries the names inside the link itself.

What happens to duplicate names?

They are removed automatically, so everyone has one equal chance.
