Khajiit has wares, if you have coin, and Khajiit also has a name you'll recognise from a mile away. The cat-folk of Elsweyr often wear a short prefix and an apostrophe at the front of their names, like J'zargo, M'aiq the Liar and the caravan leader Ri'saad in Skyrim. This Khajiit name generator builds names in that style, with or without a prefix, for Skyrim, Elder Scrolls Online or your own Tamriel stories.
How Khajiit names work
The Khajiit you meet in Skyrim show the pattern well:
- With a prefix: J'zargo at the College of Winterhold, M'aiq the Liar, Ri'saad and Ma'dran who lead the trade caravans, Ra'zhinda in Ri'saad's caravan, and Dro'marash in Ma'dran's.
- Without one: Kharjo, Ahkari, Zaynabi and Atahbah, also caravan Khajiit.
Elder Scrolls lore treats the prefixes as titles rather than part of the birth name, connected to a Khajiit's age, standing or deeds, so the same Khajiit can carry a different prefix at different points in life. The generator's prefixes are ones used by named Khajiit in the games: J', M', Ri', Ra', Ma', Do', Dro', Ja' and S'.
What the names sound like
- Soft and rolling: lots of h, z, j and rr. Dashirr, Mazhi, Khazra.
- Two syllables, sometimes three. The prefix adds a beat at the front, so the name after it is usually short.
- Female names often end in a vowel (Ahkari, Zaynabi in Skyrim; Fahzi, Inzirra here). Male names often end in a consonant.
All the names in the generator are new, so your character won't share a name with someone you'll meet in Tamriel.
Speaking like a Khajiit
Khajiit in the games often speak about themselves in the third person ("Khajiit has wares", "This one is pleased"). That's a good reason to pick a name that sounds good in a sentence: "J'zargo will be the greatest mage" works because the name is short and punchy.
- Try it in the third person. "Ri'Dashirr does not like this plan." If it rolls off the tongue, it's a keeper.
- Let the prefix change. A young Khajiit might gain a new prefix after a great deed, which is a fun way to mark progress in a campaign.
