A good cake business name looks pretty on a box, fits in an Instagram handle and hints at your style, from fun birthday cakes to elegant wedding tiers. Most cake businesses start at home and grow on Instagram, so the name has to work in both places. This cake business name generator has names in seven styles, from punny (Top Tier Cake Co.) to luxury, plus ones built from your town or your own name.
Eight good cake business names
All eight came from the generator:
- The Caker's Dozen: a twist on a baker's dozen, which is thirteen.
- Whisked Away: a pun that also sounds like a treat.
- Batter Up Cakery: a playful name for birthday and party cakes.
- Pip Bakes: short and cute, easy to fit in a handle.
- Petals & Piping: an aesthetic name for floral buttercream work.
- Stack & Spoon: a modern pair of words that suits layer cakes.
- Belgravia Cake Atelier: luxury: an elegant London district and atelier, French for a workshop or studio.
- Hampton Custom Cakes: your town plus what you do, the easiest name to find locally.
How cake business names work
- Match the name to the cakes. Wedding cake makers lean on luxury words (atelier, ivory, lace); birthday and novelty bakers do better with fun and puns.
- Cake words work hard: tier, layer, sponge, ganache, fondant, buttercream and piping all tell customers what you do.
- "Cakery" and "Cake Co." are common endings that make even an abstract name clear: Marshmallow Cakery, Sugarplum Cake Co.
- Your own name builds trust when customers are buying from you personally, but is harder to sell on if the business grows.
Check it's free before you print the sign
A name from a generator is a starting point, not permission to use it. Before you order the sign, the boxes or the van livery:
- Company register. In the UK, search Companies House; you can't register a limited company with the same name as an existing one. In the US, search your state's business register.
- Trade marks. Search the UK trade mark register (or the USPTO in the US) for the goods and services you'll sell.
- Domain and handles. Check the .co.uk or .com and the Instagram and TikTok handles you'll need.
- Your area. Search a map app for businesses with the same or a similar name nearby.
Press Check on any name, or use the Business Name Checker, to run most of these at once. For the full process, read our guide, Business Naming Best Practices. This is general guidance, not legal advice.
In the UK, a home cake business must register with the local council at least 28 days before it starts trading, like any other food business.
Making the name work on a cake box
- Picture the sticker. A long name has to shrink to fit on a box lid.
- Check the handle. If @yourname is taken, adding "cakes" or your town is usually better than adding numbers.
- Think about wedding fairs. A name that sounds polished helps you charge wedding prices.
