Every elf in Santa's workshop has a name that sounds like Christmas, and a job to go with it. This Christmas elf name generator turns your first name into an elf name, like Sam Jinglebottom, or makes a random one, and can give you a job too: Head of Wrapping, perhaps, or Chief Toy Tester.
What's my elf name?
Type your first name and the generator keeps it, then adds an elf surname made from Christmas things: Sam Jinglebottom, Sarah Sugarsparks.
- Add a job to find out what you'd do in Santa's workshop, from Tinsel Untangler to Keeper of the Naughty List.
- Or go random for a full elf name with no link to your own.
- For a group, run everyone's names through it for a Christmas party, an office game or a family card.
Christmas elves in folklore
Santa's busy workshop elves are a fairly modern idea, but they grew out of much older household spirits.
- The Scandinavian nisse or tomte is a small farm spirit who looks after the house and animals. On Christmas Eve families leave him a bowl of rice porridge with butter; forget, and he plays tricks.
- Iceland's Yule Lads are thirteen mischievous brothers who visit one by one in the thirteen nights before Christmas, each with his own habit, like Spoon-Licker and Door-Slammer.
