In wuxia and xianxia stories, a character's sect is their family, their school and their side in every feud. This cultivation sect name generator names righteous sects like the Azure Cloud Sect, demonic cults, great clans and martial arts schools, with a home if you want one.
Sects, clans and schools
In wuxia and xianxia a sect is a school, a family and a side in every feud at once.
- Righteous and demonic: stories split the martial world into orthodox sects and demonic cults, and the fun is in the grey areas between them.
- Real anchors: two real places run through the genre, the Shaolin Monastery and the Daoist temples of the Wudang Mountains, both famous for martial arts.
- Clans are families with their own techniques, passed down by blood rather than taught to outsiders.
- Martial schools are smaller and more practical: named for their signature skill, like an Iron Palm school.
Naming a sect
- Righteous sects sound like clean sky and mountains: Azure Cloud Sect, Golden Crane Sect.
- Demonic cults sound like blood and poison: Blood Shadow Cult, Poison Fang Abyss.
- Clans take the family name: the Murong Clan, the Wei Family.
- Add a place to root it in a map: of the Jade River, of the Southern Wilds.
