How technique names work
A technique's name promises something spectacular before the first blow lands, and it usually says what kind of skill it is.
- Sword arts (jian is the straight sword) end in Sword Technique or Sword Method.
- Palm and fist techniques borrow from real martial arts, which often name moves after animals, like the tiger and the crane.
- Movement skills are qinggong, "lightness skill": running up walls and across water.
- Heart Methods (xinfa) are the inner cultivation manuals behind everything else.
Technique grades
Many xianxia stories rank techniques from Heaven grade down through Earth and Mystic to Yellow.
