Every fantasy world needs gods, and a pantheon feels real when its gods share a sound. This god name generator makes new gods and goddesses in Greek, Norse, Egyptian, Celtic or otherworldly styles, each with a domain: war, love, death, the sea, the harvest and more.
How real pantheons sound
A pantheon feels real when its gods sound like they come from the same place, the way real ones do.
- Greek gods have flowing names, often ending in vowels or -os: the twelve Olympians ruled from Mount Olympus, each with their own domain.
- Norse gods come in two families, the Æsir and the Vanir, with short, hard names.
- Egyptian gods were often shown with animal heads, and their names turn up inside human names, like Amun in Amenhotep.
- Celtic gods are known mostly from Roman-era inscriptions and later Irish and Welsh stories, so their names survive in pieces.
Every name here is invented. Pick one sound for your whole pantheon and it will hang together.
Building a pantheon
- Choose a sound (Greek, Norse, Egyptian, Celtic or otherworldly) and keep it for every god.
- Choose a domain for each: war, love, death, the sea, the sun, the moon, the harvest, wisdom, trickery, storms, the forge or nature.
- The title format gives you a ready-made line for a holy book: Thalora, Goddess of the Tides.
- Gods need servants: try the Angel and Demon name generators, and the Cleric Name Generator for their priests.
