Good farm names usually come from the land, an animal or a family, like Willow Beck Farm or Honeypot Farm, or a pun if you're feeling cheerful. Every good farm needs a name on the gate. This farm name generator gives you cosy and cute names for Stardew Valley and other farming games, British farms, American ranches, punny farms and fantasy farms, each with an optional line about the place.
Eight good farm names
All eight came from the generator, across its styles:
- Willow Beck Farm: a British farm by a stream, beck being the northern word for one.
- Linnet Brow Farm, known for its cider orchard and its bad-tempered gander: a real-sounding farm with a character in it.
- Flying C Ranch: an American ranch named after its cattle brand.
- Butterhollow Farm: a cosy name that suits a farming game.
- Scarecrow and Sugarsnap Farm, with fairy lights strung along the porch: a cute farm that's easy to picture.
- Unimpressed Cauliflower Farm: a pun-free funny name that works on its own.
- Pecking Order Farm, where the hens have staged three escapes this month: a funny farm with a running joke.
- Frostberry Steading, with an orchard of glowing apples that light the lane at night: a fantasy farm with a little magic.
How farms get their names
- British farms are often named after their place in the parish. Home Farm was the farm that supplied the big house, and Manor Farm belonged to the manor. George Orwell's Animal Farm begins at a Manor Farm.
- Old words for the land fill British farm names: croft (a small enclosed field), brow (the brow of a hill), carr (wet woodland), fold (an animal pen) and -stead (a farmstead). In Scotland a steading is the farm buildings.
- American ranches take the name of their cattle brand, read aloud: Flying C is a C with wings, Rocking J a J on a rocker, and C Bar A two letters with a bar between.
Choose a style: British, Ranch, Cosy and cute, Funny or Fantasy. Choose With a description for a line about the place.
Naming your farm in a game
- In Stardew Valley and other farming games, you name your farm when you start a new game, so it's worth picking one you'll like for a hundred in-game seasons.
- Match the name to your plans: a cosy name for a crop farm, a funny one for a farm full of animals.
- Keep it short if the game shows it on screen often.
Name the animals too with the Farm Animal Name Generator. For the village down the lane, there's the Village Name Generator, and for a farm with a petting zoo, the Zoo Name Generator.
