Dunmer names are short, sharp and full of v, r and l sounds: Revyn Sadri, the trader in Windhelm; Brelyna Maryon at the College of Winterhold; Teldryn Sero, the sellsword on Solstheim. This Dunmer name generator builds names in that style, a first name and a family name, and can add one of Morrowind's Great Houses.
How Dunmer names work
Most Dunmer in the games have a first name and a family name. In Skyrim you'll meet Revyn Sadri and Aval Atheron in Windhelm, Drevis Neloren and Brelyna Maryon at the College of Winterhold, and Ambarys Rendar running the New Gnisis Cornerclub.
Some important Dunmer go by one name. Neloth, the Telvanni wizard on Solstheim, is the best-known example. The Ashlanders, the nomadic tribes of Morrowind's wastes, keep their own traditions too.
The Great Houses
Dunmer society in Morrowind was organised around Great Houses. The ones you meet most often are:
- House Redoran: warriors, devoted to duty and honour.
- House Hlaalu: traders and politicians, comfortable with the Empire.
- House Telvanni: powerful, reclusive wizards like Neloth.
House Indoril and House Dres were Great Houses too. The With a Great House format adds a house to the name. It's a quick way to give a character a background: a Redoran and a Telvanni would not get on.
What the names sound like
- Male first names often end in -yn, -ys or -as: Revyn, Ambarys, Drevis. Short and clipped.
- Female first names usually end in -a or -i: Brelyna, Ravyna, Malsi.
- Family names are two or three syllables, often ending in -en, -on or -i: Sadri, Atheron, Neloren.
All the names in this generator are new, so your character won't share a name with one from the games.
