This Minecraft villager name generator names villagers by profession and biome, from Herbert Bookworth the Librarian to Frosty Woolsey the Shepherd. Villagers don't come with names, but a name tag changes that, and a named villager is much easier to keep track of in a trading hall.
How to name a villager in Minecraft
To name a villager in Minecraft, rename a name tag on an anvil and use it on the villager.
- Get a name tag: you can find them in chests, catch them while fishing, or buy them from a librarian villager.
- Put the name tag in an anvil, type the name and take it out. This costs one level of experience.
- Hold the name tag and use it on the villager. The name shows above its head.
A named villager won't despawn, and the name stays if it changes job. Naming villagers is a big help in a trading hall, where a row of identical librarians is easy to mix up.
Villager names by job and biome
Minecraft villagers have 13 professions, plus the jobless nitwit, and come in 7 biome types.
- Thirteen jobs: armorer, butcher, cartographer, cleric, farmer, fisherman, fletcher, leatherworker, librarian, mason, shepherd, toolsmith and weaponsmith, each linked to a workstation block. Nitwits, in green coats, never take a job.
- Seven villager types, one for each biome they come from: plains, desert, savanna, taiga, snowy, swamp and jungle. The names follow the biome too, so a snowy villager might be Frosty and a desert one Dusty.
- The title format adds the job, so your librarian becomes Herbert Bookworth the Librarian.
