A good construction company name sounds solid and trustworthy: a family name, a word from the trade or a strong image, often with your town. This construction company name generator suggests names for builders, contractors and renovation firms: catchy, classic family names, strong one-word names, modern and luxury, plus names from your town or your first name.
Eight good construction company names
All eight came from the generator, across its styles:
- Fair & Square Building: a promise of honest quotes in three words.
- Square One Construction: a catchy phrase that also means starting fresh.
- Carter & Sons General Contractors: the classic family firm, with a trade in the surname.
- Millbrook Builders & Joiners: a place-style name that sounds local and established.
- Ashlar: a modern one-word name from the trade: ashlar is finely cut, squared building stone.
- Dovetail & Co.: named after the joint, a sign of careful work.
- Steadfast Construction Co.: strong and dependable, for bigger projects.
- Whitfield Fine Homes: a luxury name for high-end builds and renovations.
Where good building names come from
Most building firms are named one of three ways, and each sends a different message:
- A family name with & Sons, Brothers or Family: it says the firm has a reputation to protect. Slater and Mason started as surnames for the trades themselves.
- A word from the trade: a keystone locks an arch together, a lintel carries the wall over a door and a truss holds up a roof. They sound skilled without being boastful.
- A strong image: stone, oak, iron, a ridge or a summit. Stoneridge Contracting and Iron Ridge Builders suit groundworks and larger contracts.
If you specialise, say so: extensions, loft conversions, brickwork or groundworks are what customers type into a search box.
Check it's free before you print the sign
Signboards, hoardings, vans and quotes all carry the name, and each costs money the moment it's printed, so check the name first. Press Check next to any name to open the Business Name Checker, which looks it up in one go:
- The company register: Companies House in the UK, or your state's business register in the US. A limited company's name can't be the same as one already registered.
- Trade marks: the UK IPO and USPTO registers. Registering a company doesn't stop someone else owning the name as a trade mark.
- A domain and social handles, so customers can find you under the same name everywhere.

Making the name work on site
- Think about the site board. Your name goes outside every job you do, so a clear, short name is free advertising.
- Keep it honest. Avoid words like Chartered or Institute in a company name: Companies House treats some words as sensitive and they need permission.
- Leave room to grow if you might move from renovations into new builds.
