How advice firms are named
People are trusting you with their savings, so names lean towards stability: surnames, places, trees and birds, and words like Planning, Wealth and Advice. "Wealth Management" suggests investment management for larger portfolios; "Financial Planning" suits advice on pensions, savings and retirement. Avoid anything that promises returns or sounds like a big bank.
Regulated words: UK firms giving financial advice must be authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority. Under FCA rules, a firm may only describe its advice as "independent" if it covers the whole market without bias or restriction. In UK company names, "Bank", "Trust", "Fund", "Chartered", "Insurance", "Assurance" and "Society" are sensitive words that need approval. In the US, investment advisers register with the SEC or their state, and "CFP" and "Certified Financial Planner" are certification marks for those certified by the CFP Board.
