A warlock made a deal with something powerful, and the best warlock names hint at who's on the other end of the pact. This warlock name generator gives D&D 5e warlocks a first name with a gothic edge and an epithet for their Otherworldly Patron, from the Archfey to the Fiend and the Great Old One.
The warlock in D&D
A D&D warlock gets their magic from a pact with a powerful patron.
- Patrons: the Archfey, the Fiend and the Great Old One in the Player's Handbook, and the Celestial, Hexblade, Fathomless, Genie and Undead in later books.
- The word: warlock comes from the Old English wǣrloga, an oath-breaker, which later came to mean a sorcerer in league with the Devil.
Naming a warlock
The best warlock names hint at who's on the other end of the pact.
- The name (Belladonna, Morwenna, Ambrose) has a dark edge.
- The epithet follows the patron: an Archfey warlock "of the Summer Court", a Genie warlock "Servant of the Lamp", an Undead warlock "the Lich-Sworn".
- Name the patron too: the Demon, Fairy and Genie name generators all make good ones.
