Good K-pop names are short, stylised and easy to chant: a bold word in capitals, a number, or a nickname a whole stadium can shout. This K-pop name generator makes group names, idol stage names, fandom names and mini-album titles in the shapes real agencies use, without borrowing any famous ones.
Eight good K-pop names
All eight came from the generator, across its four formats:
- HEYDAY: a group name in capitals, short enough to chant.
- SWEE7: a number hidden in the spelling, a favourite K-pop trick.
- Pink Monday: a softer two-word name for a girl group.
- Seulbi: a Korean given name, soft and easy to chant.
- Kokoro: a Japanese stage name, as many groups have Japanese members.
- Byeolbit: a fandom name from the Korean for starlight.
- Heartlings: an English fandom name that sounds like part of the family.
- The Diary Chapter: Mirage: an album in a numbered series, the way K-pop eras are released.
How K-pop names work
- Group names are usually short, often in capitals, and sometimes an acronym: BTS stands for Bangtan Sonyeondan. Numbers turn up too, as in SEVENTEEN or NCT 127. The generator makes names like ENCORE, LVX and Eight Rays.
- Idol stage names are often a single name, a nickname or initials. Many groups have members from China, Japan or Taiwan: TWICE has three Japanese members and one from Taiwan. Choose a boy or girl group idol for names like Joowon, Yuxuan, Saebom or Yutong.
- Fandom names are part of the identity. BTS fans are ARMY, BLACKPINK's are BLINK, TWICE's are ONCE and SEVENTEEN's are CARAT. Good ones are one word, flattering and easy to chant: Wishlights, Cheeries, Haetsal (sunlight).
- Albums come out as mini-albums in eras, often with a series title and a part number, as TXT did with The Dream Chapter. The generator makes titles like Blueprint: Day Zero Pt. 2 or a single word like FLUTTER.
Using the names
- For fan fiction and roleplay, give each member a stage name and a position (leader, main vocal, main dancer, maknae, the youngest) and the group comes to life.
- For a real group or a dance cover team, search the name first: short capitalised names are popular, and fans will notice if one is taken.
- Name the fandom too. It's the first thing new fans ask about.
