Good drum and bass names hit hard and fast: one sharp word, often with a k or an x where a c would be, an "A & B" duo, or an MC tag that cuts through a rewind. This drum and bass name generator makes producer and DJ names, duos and crews, MC names and EP titles.
Eight good drum and bass names
All eight came from the generator, across producers, duos, MCs and records:
- Morfik: a stylised spelling, which is how a lot of DnB aliases stand out.
- Strata: one hard, technical word, the neurofunk way.
- Zeno & Kryo: two short aliases with an ampersand, the standard duo shape.
- Kings of the Night Bus: a crew name for anyone who's left a rave at 6am.
- MC Diction: an MC tag about the voice itself.
- MC Riddla D: rhyme-speak spelling plus an initial, as MCs often have.
- Rain on Concrete: a liquid-style EP title: wet streets and city lights.
- Mass & Velocity: a physics title for something heavy and fast.
How drum and bass names itself
Drum and bass grew out of UK jungle in the early 1990s, built on chopped-up breakbeats. The most famous of them, the Amen break, comes from a six-second drum solo on "Amen, Brother", a 1969 B-side by The Winstons. From the start the scene ran on pirate radio, dubplates and MCs hyping the crowd, and the names still show it:
- Producers and DJs pick one word that sounds like engineering or physics, and bend the spelling: Circuitry, Oxide, Synaptix.
- Duos put two names either side of an ampersand: Alloy & Kinetic, Inertia & Radar.
- MCs are "MC" plus a word about speed or lyrics, or a name with MC after it: MC Rapid, Static MC.
- EPs are often just one word and "EP", or two track titles with a slash, the way a two-track release lists its A-side and B-side: Tremor / Tundra.
Each sub-genre leans its own way. Liquid names are soft and watery (Stay Liquid), while neurofunk names sound like lab equipment (Axon EP, Capacitor Theory).
Using a drum and bass name
- Make it readable at speed. Your name will scroll past on a stream and sit at the bottom of a line-up, so one word usually works best.
- Don't overdo the spelling. One swapped letter makes a name yours; three makes it impossible to search for.
- MCs, test it out loud. If the host can't shout it clearly over a drop, pick another.
- Check it's free on Beatport, Discogs, SoundCloud and Spotify. DnB has a lot of one-word aliases already.
