How blood elf names work
- First names are graceful and often long. Some are split by an apostrophe: Kael'thas, Lor'themar. Others aren't: Liadrin, Rommath, Halduron.
- Surnames are often English compounds about light, the sun or flight: Sunstrider, Windrunner, Brightwing. Some, like Theron, are single elven words.

From high elves to blood elves
The blood elves were once the high elves, the quel'dorei, of Quel'Thalas. After the Scourge destroyed much of their kingdom and corrupted the Sunwell, the survivors took a new name, sin'dorei, "children of the blood", in memory of their dead. Their city, Silvermoon, and the restored Sunwell are at the heart of their story.
That history is useful for naming: a blood elf old enough to remember Quel'Thalas before its fall might keep an older, gentler name, while one born after might choose something fiercer.
Getting a free name in WoW
WoW names must be one word and unique on your realm, and can't include an apostrophe, so a name like Kael'dorin needs to become Kaeldorin in game. Use the full name with surname for roleplay.
