Night elves, the kaldorei, have some of the most recognisable names in Warcraft: Tyrande Whisperwind, Malfurion Stormrage, Shandris Feathermoon, Maiev Shadowsong. A flowing first name, then a surname made of two English words about nature, the night or battle. This night elf name generator builds names in the same pattern for your World of Warcraft character or your own Azeroth story.
How night elf names work
- First names are long and flowing, with soft sounds: Tyrande, Malfurion, Shandris, Maiev. Many end in -is, -on, -e or -a.
- Surnames are compounds of two English words: Whisperwind, Stormrage, Feathermoon, Shadowsong, Staghelm. They describe the family: its temper, its gifts or the forest it came from.
The generator's surnames are new compounds, built from the night elves' favourite themes: the moon, stars, leaves, owls and mist.
Names that fit the kaldorei
Night elves worship Elune, the moon goddess, and for thousands of years lived in harmony with the forests of Kalimdor, guarded by druids and Sentinels. Their names reflect that:
- The moon and stars: Moonshade, Starfall. A priestess of Elune would carry one proudly.
- The forest: Silverleaf, Thornbranch. Good for a druid.
- The night and shadow: Duskwhisper, Shadowleaf. Good for a Sentinel, a hunter or a Warden like Maiev.

World of Warcraft names must be unique on your realm and can only be one word, so you'll usually only use the first name in game. Popular names are often taken.
- Try a few first names from the generator with "First name only".
- Keep the surname for roleplay. On roleplaying realms, many players put the full name in an addon profile.
