Good dance studio names are cheerful and easy to say, and many borrow a dance term or a bit of theatre: Pointe of View Dance Studio, Stage Left School of Dance, Little Pirouette Dance. The Dance Studio Name Generator suggests names for a dance studio, dance school, ballet school or dance company: catchy, cute, funny, classic, modern, Indian classical, your town or your own name.
Eight good dance studio names
All eight came from the generator:
- Pointe of View Dance Studio: a ballet pun that still sounds professional.
- Stage Left School of Dance: theatre language, for a school that puts on shows.
- Little Swan Ballet: cute and graceful, for pre-school ballet.
- Two Left Feet Dance: a friendly joke for adult beginners' classes.
- Finch School of Dance: a classic name, like a family dance school that's been running for decades.
- Grand Jeté Dance Co.: a big leap in ballet, for a modern company.
- Nupura Kathak Academy: nupura is Sanskrit for anklets, worn in Indian classical dance.
- Mirrorball Dance Studio: glitzy, for ballroom, disco or party classes.
Where dance names come from
- Ballet words are French. Ballet was codified at the French court, and Louis XIV founded the Académie Royale de Danse in 1661, so its steps still have French names: plié (bent), jeté (thrown), pirouette (a spin) and pointe (dancing on the tips of the toes).
- Theatre words such as stage left, curtain call, encore and standing ovation suit schools that build up to a show.
- Indian classical dance has its own vocabulary, mostly from Sanskrit: natya (dance-drama), nritya (dance), lasya (graceful dance), rasa and bhava (the feeling a performance creates). Naming the style you teach, such as Kathak, Bharatanatyam or Kuchipudi, helps families find you.
- Little and animal names (Little Wren, Dragonfly) suit pre-school and baby classes.
Check it's free before you print the sign
A name only works if nobody else nearby has it. Before you order the sign, the cards or the van wrap, press Check on any name, or use the Business Name Checker:
- Domain and handles. Most clients will find you on Instagram or Google first, so get the .co.uk or .com and the same handle everywhere if you can.
- The company register. In the UK, a limited company name can't be the same as one already on Companies House. In the US, search your state's business register.
- Trade marks. Search the UK IPO or USPTO register for anything in your field, as a registered mark can stop you using a name even if the company register allowed it.
- Your area. Search Google Maps for dance schools near you. A similar name a few streets away will confuse clients and reviews.
This is general guidance, not legal advice. For the full process, read Business Naming Best Practices.
Choosing for your classes
- Name the style if you only teach one: parents search for "ballet" or "street dance" plus their town.
- Think about who's booking. A cute name suits toddler ballet; adults and competition teams may prefer something more grown-up.
- Check it on a costume. Your name will end up on hoodies, show programmes and bags.
