A good art business name sells you or your style: your own name for originals, a soft aesthetic name for a print shop, a friendly name for classes, or a surname for a gallery. Selling prints on Etsy, teaching art classes or opening a gallery? This art business name generator has names in eight styles, from puns and aesthetic Instagram names to classic galleries, ready to check.
Eight good art business names
All eight came from the generator:
- Line & Dandy: a pun for illustration and line drawing.
- Draw & Order Studio: catchy, and tidy-sounding.
- Paper Moon Art Studio: cute and dreamy.
- Raw Umber: a pigment name for a modern studio.
- Sage & Sparrow: soft and aesthetic, for a print shop.
- Sip & Sketch: a class that tells you what happens.
- Farrow Editions: sounds like a print publisher.
- The Old Dairy Gallery: a gallery named after its building.
Prints, originals, classes or a gallery
- Originals sell on the artist, so your own name often works best.
- Print shops suit a brand name. Editions hints at limited runs, which are numbered, as in 12/50, and are often printed as giclée prints.
- Classes want a welcoming name: Club, Workshop, Art Room.
- Galleries are usually named after their founders or their building.
Pigment names make good studio names: ochre and umber are earth pigments, and cadmium gives bright yellows and reds.
Check it's free before you print the sign
Before you pay for a logo, labels or a stall banner, press Check on the name you like, or paste it into the Business Name Checker. It looks for:
- Company names: in the UK, Companies House won't register a limited company name that's the same as one already on the register. In the US, check your state's business register.
- Trade marks: search the UK Intellectual Property Office and, if you sell abroad, the USPTO. A registered company name doesn't give you trade mark rights.
- Web and social: the .com or .co.uk, plus the Instagram, TikTok and Etsy handles art customers will look for.
If you sell prints of your own work you own the copyright, but never sell art based on other people's characters, logos or photographs without permission.
This is general guidance, not legal advice. For the full checklist, read Business Naming Best Practices.
Tips for an art business
- Keep your name for originals. Many artists use their own name for paintings and a brand name for prints.
- Match it to your style: soft names for soft work, bold names for bold work.
- Check Etsy's limit of 20 characters with no spaces if you'll sell there.
