Good crochet business names are warm and handmade: your own name with Hooks or Crochet, a pun on loops and yarn, or a soft pair like Plum & Alpaca. Selling amigurumi, granny-square blankets or chunky knits? This crochet business name generator has names in seven styles for Etsy, Instagram, craft fairs and yarn shops, including names built from your own name.
Eight good crochet business names
All eight came from the generator:
- Treble Maker: a pun on troublemaker and the treble stitch.
- Bits & Bobbins: a twist on bits and bobs, for a maker who does a bit of everything.
- Ewe Can Do It: a sheep pun with encouragement in it, good for patterns and kits.
- Frog It: crocheters say frogging for pulling work out, because you "rip it, rip it". An in-joke other makers will love.
- Loopy Lambs: cute, for amigurumi and baby gifts.
- Plum & Alpaca: a soft, aesthetic pair for an Instagram shop.
- The Old Post Office Wool Shop: a classic yarn shop name with a building's history in it.
- Hooked on Hampton: a pun on your town. Put your own town in the box.
How crochet names work
- Craft words: hook, loop, stitch, skein and yarn all make good name parts. Amigurumi, the Japanese word for small crocheted or knitted stuffed toys, is a search term in its own right.
- UK or US terms: the same stitch has different names on each side of the Atlantic: a UK treble is a US double. A name like Treble Maker reads as British.
- Your own name is the most common shape, like Crochet with Sarah, and it suits a one-person shop.
- Toys have rules. Crocheted toys sold in the UK must meet the toy safety regulations and carry UKCA or CE marking, handmade ones included.
Check it's free before you print the sign
A crochet name ends up on your shop, your tags and your Instagram, so it's worth a few minutes' checking before anything is printed:
- Press Check on any name above. The Business Name Checker looks up the domain, links to the company register (Companies House in the UK) and opens the trade mark search and social handles.
- Search where you'll trade. Look the name up on maps, marketplaces and social media. Two businesses with the same name confuse customers and reviews.
- Etsy shop names have to be unique, 4 to 20 characters, with no spaces, so check your favourite still fits.
This is general guidance, not legal advice. For the full process, from shortlisting to registering, read our guide to Business Naming Best Practices.
Tips for makers
- Match the name to what you sell. Cute suits toys, Aesthetic suits blankets and homeware, and Classic suits a yarn shop.
- Think about patterns. If you'll sell patterns as well as finished pieces, a name without Shop in it travels better.
