Good soap business names hint at what's in the bar or how it feels to use: a lather pun, a hedgerow plant, or a French word that sounds like a little shop in Provence. Making cold-process bars for markets, Etsy or a shop of your own? This soap business name generator has names in eight styles, from lather puns and cheeky goats to hedgerow naturals and French luxury.
Eight good soap business names
All eight came from the generator:
- Foam Truths: a pun on home truths, quick and memorable.
- Clay & Lye: two soapmaking ingredients: lye is what turns oil into soap.
- Bar Humbug: a Christmas pun on Scrooge that works all year.
- Muddy Hedgehog Suds: funny and very British, good for a market stall.
- Honey Duck Soaps: cute, for children's soaps and gift sets.
- Nettle & Willow: two native plants, for natural and herbal soaps.
- Maison du Savon: French for "house of soap", for a luxury feel.
- Booth & Sons Soapmakers: a family name and an old trade word, for a traditional range.
How soap names work
- The words of the craft: soap is made by saponification, the reaction between oils and lye (sodium hydroxide). Lye, lather, suds and bar all make good name parts.
- French for luxury: savon is French for soap and a savonnerie is a soap works, which is why French names sound upmarket on a label.
- Plants for natural soap: herbs and hedgerow names, like Calendula Soap Kitchen, tell people what's inside.
- The rules: in the UK, soap sold to cleanse the skin is a cosmetic. Before it goes on sale it needs a safety assessment by a qualified assessor, a UK Responsible Person, and notification through the government's Submit Cosmetic Product Notification service. The label lists ingredients by their INCI names.
Check it's free before you print the sign
A soap name goes on every label, every market banner and your shop, so it's worth a few minutes' checking before anything is printed:
- Press Check on any name above. The Business Name Checker looks up the domain, links to the company register (Companies House in the UK) and opens the trade mark search and social handles.
- Search where you'll trade. Look the name up on maps, marketplaces and social media. Two businesses with the same name confuse customers and reviews.
- Check the name doesn't make a claim you can't back up. Cosmetics can't claim to treat or cure conditions, so steer clear of words like Healing.

Tips for soapmakers
- Try it on a small label. Soap labels are small, so a short name stays readable.
- Think about candles and bath bombs. Soap Co. is clear, but Bath Co. or Soap & Candle Co. leaves room to grow.
