Good tattoo shop names have a bit of character and say something about your style: traditional symbols for an old-school shop, clean words for a fine-line studio. The Tattoo Shop Name Generator suggests names for a tattoo shop, tattoo studio or parlour (parlor in the US): catchy, funny, cute and fine line, traditional, cool, modern, your town or your own name.
Eight good tattoo shop names
All eight came from the generator:
- Heart & Mermaid Tattoo: two classic flash designs, the traditional way.
- Panther & Lighthouse Tattoo: traditional symbols with a story behind them.
- Forge Lane Tattooing: a classic street-style name.
- Line & Shade Tattoo: catchy, and names the craft.
- Seedling Fine Line Tattoo: soft and small, for delicate work.
- Steel Swallow Tattoo: a cool take on a traditional sailor's tattoo.
- Monoline Tattoo: modern and minimal.
- Worth the Wait Tattoo Club: funny, and true of every good tattoo.
How tattoo shop names work
Traditional Western tattooing grew up around sailors' tattoos, and many classic designs carry a meaning. A swallow was said to bring a sailor home, an anchor stands for steadiness, and a panther or tiger for strength. Those designs make good names because they suggest your style before anyone sees your portfolio.
- Traditional names pair two flash designs: Clover & Eagle Tattoo.
- Cute and fine line names are small and soft: Wren Ink, Little Snowdrop Tattoo.
- Cool names add metal, fire or animals: Iron Serpent Tattoo.
- Modern names use one design word: Etch & Co., Sketch Collective.
Studio, parlour and shop all work. "Collective" suits a shop with several resident artists.
Check it's free before you print the sign
Press Check on any name, or paste one into the Business Name Checker, to see whether the domain and social handles are free and to jump to the company register and trade mark searches. Then:
- Search the company register. In the UK that's Companies House; in the US, your state's business register.
- Search trade marks with the UK Intellectual Property Office or the USPTO, especially if you'll sell products or open more than one site.
- Look locally. Search Google Maps for tattoo studios near you: a similar name a few streets away will confuse customers even if it's legally fine.
- Register with the council. In the UK, tattooists and their premises must be registered or licensed with the local council before they start work, and tattooing anyone under 18 is illegal.
This is general guidance, not legal advice. For more on choosing and checking a name, read our guide: Business Naming Best Practices.
Naming for artists who move
Many tattooists work as resident or guest artists in someone else's shop. If you might move, use your own name or a personal brand for your Instagram, and keep the shop name for the premises. For merch, the T-Shirt Business Name Generator has names for a clothing line; for the barbers next door, the Barber Shop Name Generator.
